Bruce Kroken
Bruce Kroken was a member of the ACB for 24 years and was a founding member of the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra. He believed music is a source of life-long enjoyment. We pay tribute to our great friend by providing this scholarship in his name.
The Bruce Kroken Memorial Scholarship
The Bruce Kroken Memorial Scholarship is a $1,500 cash award to encourage band students to continue participation as a performing musician. The Albuquerque Concert Band (ACB) is once again offering this scholarship to High School Band Members in New Mexico who are graduating seniors. They must plan to register and play in a Performance Ensemble in college but do not need to be a music major.
The $1,500 award is given to one student. In addition to the financial award, recipients shall perform their audition solo at the Albuquerque Concert Band Concert on Sunday April 6, 2025. The concert will be held in the Eldorado High School Performing Arts Complex at 3pm. The winner shall be selected by a virtual audition and interview, due by Friday March 7, 2025.
The award will be based on the virtual audition and interview. The applicant must perform on a traditional band instrument. The audition will be virtual and due by Friday March 7, 2025. The audition selection is the performer's choice and may be the solo selection that the student will perform at Solo/Ensemble Festival. If selected for the Bruce Kroken Scholarship, the audition piece should be the performance piece for the concert.
Audition Recordings Instructions:
You will be providing a link to your audition and introduction video on the Google form link provided. You may upload your audition and interview to YouTube or any other video sharing site (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.) All videos shared must be viewable by the audition committee. Please check your share settings before you submit your audition application. See below for information regarding uploading via YouTube.- To upload a video to YouTube you must have a YouTube account: upload through YouTube Studio. Make sure to set the visibility to Unlisted, this will ensure that only those with the link will be able to view your video. Title video with your full name and instrument.

Audition Requirements:
Complete the application via Google Forms. You will submit two (2) videos: Video 1 - Introduction/Interview- Include your name and give a summary about your musical journey, how it has affected your life, and your future plans with music.
